Motion Equity Partners and Arkéa Capital support CDL Omni-Pac in the acquisition of Moulded Fibre Products (MFP) in the United Kingdom
CDL Omni-Pac Group, a leading European player in the production of moulded fibre packaging, has completed the acquisition of the UK company Moulded Fibre Products (MFP) thus strengthening its positions in Europe.
CDL Omni-Pac is a major European player in the packaging industry, with a range of innovative and sustainable solutions in moulded fibre, a natural, recyclable and biodegradable material.
The Group offers a large range of products mainly addressing the following markets:
- Food processing, the poultry industry specifically, but also convenience goods such as fruit and vegetables as well as fish and meat. In these segments, moulded fibre offers ideal features for the conditioning and preservation of the products and the replacement of plastic materials;
- The medical sector, with innovative single-use solutions limiting the excessive use of detergents and the proliferation of nosocomial disease.
The Group operates three highly automated and complementary state-of-the-art production facilities. It will now employ around 600 staff between its three sites at Allaire in Brittany, Elsfleth in Germany and now Scunthorpe in the United Kingdom. Every year, over 100,000 tons of recycled paper and cardboard are recycled on these sites.
The Group manufactures over 2 billion products annually which are sold in over 50 countries worldwide. Historically positioned as a leader in the French and German markets, the Group is also a key player in Benelux, the Nordic Countries and in Southern Europe.
Over past years, CDL Omni-Pac has heavily invested in Research and Development in order to develop tomorrow’s packaging, as well as constantly striving to reduce its impact on the environment. Today, the Group continues to extend its product range to offer sustainable alternatives for non-biodegradable packaging in various industries ranging from food processing to medical and horticulture. In 2018, CDL Omni-Pac received two awards at “All 4 Pack”, the professional packaging trade fair, for its innovative solutions, allowing an optimal preservation of products, while being fully biodegradable.
With the acquisition of Moulded Fibre Products (MFP), the Group strengthens its position as a leading European manufacturer added value, renewable packaging. Based in Scunthorpe (North Lincolnshire), MFP is an industry leader in the production of packaging for the fruit and vegetable market, as well as hygiene solutions for the United Kingdom’s mature medical market.
“After France and Germany, our industrial presence in England completes our mission to be at the forefront in Europe of an industry providing recycling solutions, giving a new life to our paper waste, thus making future improvements to our environment. Furthermore, this acquisition will deliver strong commercial synergies in the food thanks to its strategic partnership with Evesham Packaging Limited (ESP) and medical sectors which will strengthen the Group’s objectives”, says Renaud Malarre, the Group CEO.
“Having set the business up with James Gallacher and the management team in 2012, I am proud to have seen the business grow rapidly from a standing start. As we sat down last year, it was clear that the team had some very exciting and ambitious growth plans to take MFP to the next level and we decided it was the right time to bring in a new partner to support this growth. It was important to me to bring someone in who could support the business achieve its ambitions, but also someone who understood the industry and was aligned in values. In CDL Omni-Pac I believe we have found that partner. I look forward to remaining involved as a director of the business in this exciting next chapter” says Richard Grimmer, MFP Chairman
“Over the last five years, the company has grown from a French SME with €30m of revenues into a burgeoning European packaging Group aiming to generate €100m of revenues this year. The Group is today at the forefront of a fast-changing packaging market. Organic development is at the forefront of the Group plans as well as developing many huge opportunities for growth in Export markets in the Middle East, also North and South America. We also remain attentive to further build-up opportunities”, states Cedric Rays, Partner at Motion Equity Partners.
